Death of Kin

One of the biggest news in mobile I think is the how Microsoft pulled the plug on their ‘Kin’ product after less then 1 month on the market. This was a major blow back to Microsoft considering they spend over 500 million to buy Kin’s developers – Danger (they are the developers of the ‘Sidekick’, Kin’s predecessor), and millions more on marketing of Kin.

The news on what happened with Kin in itself is amazing and just proves how Microsoft has lost its way in doing any innovation or better yet bringing innovation to the marketplace. They can copy and execute (ala XBox) but not do something from scratch and create a world class product (ie Zune, Tablet PCs, Surface, Bing, etc). Read the article from PC World to understand how a large multi-billion organization can destroy any product due to mis-management, inner-department scrabbles and down-right lost of focus.

Another good read is this on Engadget, on what brought the Kin down.
